ComboFix

Antivirus programs are an essential software component for any computer. Without some form of protection, a computer is left vulnerable to all sorts of virus infections. If you are looking for something else than a conventional antivirus, then you should have a look at ComboFix. Despite its rudimentary appearance, you can call this application a highly effective solution against viruses and malware. It was designed for only one purpose, which is to scan for malware and viruses and to remove them.

ComboFix doesn't need to be installed and launched like most applications on the market. All you have to do is download and run its executable file and the program will take it from there. After unpacking its core components, ComboFix will back up a series of registry files, after which it will start searching for infections.

Although ComboFix doesn't take as long as other antivirus programs to complete a scan, you will still have to wait several minutes until it's done scanning. The program doesn't come with an interface of its own, so it will only display an events log as plain text, on the Windows command prompt. Infections are removed automatically, if found during the scanning process. Additionally, the program will remove all temporary Internet files and it will also clean the system's Temp folder and the Recycle Bin.

When the entire operation is complete, ComboFix will generate a detailed report and store it in the system's partition. If, for some reason, the program is not able to remove a certain infection, it will add an entry in the report, so you can remove the threat manually. Alternatively, the report can be quite useful if you get professional help.
